Our partners from Luleå University of Technology (LTU); Mario Saucedo, Akash Patel, Taxiarchis Foivos Blounas, Christoforos Kanellakis and George Nikolakopoulos have published a research paper titled:

📄 “From entities to areas: A semantically driven clustering approach for area delimitation on 3D scene graphs” in Mechatronics.

🔎 The research introduces a new approach that enables robots to organize their surroundings into meaningful areas using 3D Scene Graphs (3DSGs). Instead of relying only on physical boundaries such as walls and rooms, the method uses semantic and spatial relationships between objects to understand and divide both indoor and outdoor environments.

• Uses semantic relationships to group objects into meaningful areas.

• Works across both indoor and outdoor 3D environments.

• Improves area identification through an optimized clustering approach.

• Validated using real-world robotic platforms, including Spot and Husky.

🤖 This research contributes to the development of more intelligent and adaptable robotic systems capable of understanding complex environments in real time, supporting the digital and automated solutions being advanced within CIRCULess.
